On the morning of December 16, a trapper in the northwest part of Livingston County notified our office of an unintended catch in one of his traps. The sportsman was intending on catching legal game such as bobcats and learned that instead he had a Bald Eagle.
Deputy Sheriff Eric Menconi and Conservation Agent Jake Strozewski responded to the call where Deputy Menconi used a jail suicide proof blanket and placed over the large eagle, which had about a 6 foot wingspan. The officers were then able to free the bird. Deputy Menconi reported the eagle appeared exhausted and uninjured.
