It's All About Mom

I would like to share a message to everyone about Mother’s Day and the importance every Mom and Grandmother has in our every day life.

Not only does human life begin with the good Lords creations, but each of us were given about 9 months of our mothers 24 hour love, kindness, and body.  We are forever a part of our mother and our mother will always be a big part of us.

From the day we were born we have watched, listened, and learned from our mothers and their nature to be kind, gentle, and loving people.  In today’s world so many more people need that type of life, devotion, mentality, and compassion for our family, friends, and even foes.

In 12 years of being your sheriff I have only seen a handful of Mothers who were actually pleased their son or daughter was in jail.  Their children had hit such a low point in life that incarceration was probably the only thing which would keep them alive and a chance to get away from the addictions which are slowly ruining our children, society, and our country.  Many other Mothers have shared with me the disappointments of their child being in trouble with the law and how hurtful the bad choices are to the parents and grandparents.  Often many have blamed themselves for their child’s legal troubles or addiction issues believing it was the parents fault in a lack of love, wisdom, or guidance they did not give their children.   The truth is only a few are right in this belief while the love and care many of the Mothers have given their children is admirable at the very least.

I hope people will read this “Message from the Sheriff” and take a few moments to think about what we can do to make life better for others.  The collateral damage to family, friends, and loved ones from people that choose to break laws, give in to addictions, or with violent actions and words is something that we cannot put a price on or quantify for any police report.

On behalf of all of us at your Livingston County Sheriff’s Office we wish every Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Foster Mom, and those to be, a Very Wonderful Mothers Day.  You have way more then earned our respect.

Be safe,

Steve Cox
